Kosy Onochie (she/her) is currently a first year Clinical Psychology doctoral student at GWU. She was born and raised in Nigeria before moving to the U.S. for college. She received her B.A in Psychology with a minor in Human Rights from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and a Masters in Population and Public Health from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
Kosy's research interests are focused on the mental health of Africans and those in the diaspora, including harnessing existing resources to improve understandings, assessments, and treatment of mental health. She is also broadly interested in the intersection of infectious diseases like HIV and mental health amongst this population. Kosy takes on a lens that is right-based, community-centred, and intersectional, while emphasising the need for knowledge translation.
Prior to starting her doctoral program, Kosy worked as a Research Associate at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford and subsequently as a Senior Research Associate at a market research startup.
